2 stroke project bigger tank = what to do about oil injection?

I'm building a few cafe racer projects. I put a two stroke honda motor in a 4 stroke frame and i'm using a completely different tank than the 2 stroke motor. The 2 stroke is a mt125 and has oil injections. I think there is a chance I might swap out the housing for a CR125M housing which deletes the oil injection and gives me a little more room with my frame. However as a right now it's ok and not the worst. If I keep oil injection for now and just work on the bike to get it running and see how things go is the size of the oil tank need to be the same ratio as the gas tank? I really doubt it. The oil pump pushes out the amount of oil ratio necessary to make the motor setup ok. I don't want to put to much money into this project yet but I know it will work so far. I'm somewhat pretty set on swapping over to the cr125m 6 speed and the housing and then using a premix solution. The oil tank setup from the MT125 frame doesn't fit my CB frame so i'm thinking of using a power steering tank for now. There is race gas around the corner from me and I wouldn't mind keeping a few containers premixed with the setup. Doesn't bother me at all and I can bump up the compression.

Opinions? Sounds good no?

The size of the oil tank to the gas tank is irrelevant. That you keep an eye on the oil level is relevant. The pump and the throttle opening determine how much oil is fed to the engine. I don't know a lot about the Honda two strokes. It might be wise to check if the oil pump feeds through the crank or just mixes behind the carb. If it feeds through the crank I'm not sure how premix would work.

yeh be darned careful about that because many twostrokes with oil injection lube the crank with it. On those engines you don't want to go premix.

The stock tank on my GT is about two quarts....that should last it 800 - 1000 miles.

Avoid pre-mix unless you like repairing motors. For the race track it's completely appropriate but a complete PIA for the street.

Fortunately a 2 stroke oil tank is very simple. All it needs is a single outlet and a vented cap. No return lines, breather tubes etc. If you want to get fancy, you could fit an oil level dipstick from an RD400 or almost any Polaris sled.

Here's a small tank that might work for you: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=46228&catid=578

Or make one in the seat hump like a TR500 Suzuki or TD3 Yamaha.

Or like this smart guy did to his Kawasaki H2/GSXR project bike. The quality and workmanship on that build are amazing.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like a plan. I'll make a small vented oil tank and put it in the rear seat cowl. It will be nice.

damn teazer... I have to say, that is one of the most well built bikes I have seen on the web. thanks for sharing!

No worries David. That guy has built a couple of amazing builds but on this build he took it to a whole other level. The new subframe for example and the way he fabricated those filler panels was inspired.

I got a small suzuki gas tank for the rear cowl seat. Should look awesome when it's done. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
